Introduction

The Indian IT Service Provider landscape witnessed important changes in FY 2013, resulting in changes in the pecking order. While the overall growth slowed for WITCH (Wipro, Infosys, TCS, Cognizant, and HCL) service providers as compared to the previous year (in line with the trend observed in global outsourcing industry), both TCS and Cognizant added revenue which was higher than or almost at par with the cumulative incremental revenue of the other three peers. While rankings are not necessarily the most effective gauge of current capability or future market success, the shifts in position often have a story that is important to understand, and indicate some important dynamics at play which are usually company-specific and not linked to the entire group, industry, or geography.
