Executive Summary

Traditional IT service providers are increasingly deploying cloud computing solutions as part of transformational engagements. Most of these engagements involve infrastructure modernization, virtualization, and private cloud deployment and usually run concurrently with application modernization and SaaS deployment efforts.

ITO providers can perform a variety of roles as part of cloud-enabled transformation. However, our research suggests that many of these roles tend to be tightly linked.

To develop these capabilities, service providers need to place their bets with care. Relatively low-risk alliance strategies can work well but may be limited in terms of their ability to serve complex engagements.
