The Social Media, Mobility, Analytics, and Cloud (SMAC) phenomenon is emerging as a disruptive force for the global services industry. The hype is starting to turn into reality. Each of the elements of SMAC can and in some cases have already started to have a significant impact on the global services industry. SMAC is also significant for the Procurement Outsourcing (PO) market because it promises to take PO beyond spend reduction to a more advanced value proposition focused on improving working capital, lowering Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), increasing organizational agility and flexibility, improving collaboration, and aiding innovation.
The objective of this research is to describe the impact of SMAC on PO, discuss current and potential applications, and highlight the related challenges and the best practices.
