Introduction

The cloud quarterly report tracks over 100 providers including cloud players (SaaS, IaaS, PaaS and BPaaS), independent software vendors, technology providers, hosting players, system integrators, and telecom players. It summarizes key events in the cloud industry such as new cloud offering, buyer adoption, M&As, partnerships, and investments.

In Q2 2013, verticals, such as media & entertainment and transportation & travel, witnessed an increase in demand for cloud services. Cloud adoption by the public sector is increasing across all geographies.

Europe witnessed a strong quarter for transaction activity. Among global technology service providers, IBM dominated the signing of cloud engagements. Pure cloud players, such as Ultimate Software and NetSuite, accounted for a significant portion of deal activity in this quarter.

Service providers continue to invest in enhancing their global footprint and delivery capabilities. Multinational IT service providers (MNCs), such as Dell, IBM, and Independent Software Vendors (ISVs), such as CA and SAP, leveraged the inorganic route for expansion in the cloud services space. Fujitsu, in particular, invested significantly in the last two quarters to enhance its delivery capabilities in cloud services in its non-traditional markets (outside Japan).

Among MNCs, Dell, Fujitsu, and HP accounted for a significant portion of the new offerings. Telecom companies, such as AT&T, Colt, and BT, continued to expand their portfolio of offerings.
