The Future State of the Indirect Procurement Function

1 Mar 2011

Introduction

To understand how large, complex organizations are thinking through the future state of their indirect procurement function, Everest Group recently conducted a study with procurement executives in global organizations with mature indirect procurement operations.

We focused on understanding these organizations across a variety of dimensions including organization structure, role of shared services, location strategy, performance management, value creation, and risk management. As we gained insights into their vision for the next three to five years, several common themes emerged. Beyond taking their organizations to the next levels of procurement performance, most executives are thinking through how best they can adapt to the evolving market environment and their organization’s changing objectives.

This viewpoint describes the three most compelling and common themes that emerged from the study.
