Over the years, locations landscape for offshore BPO service delivery has expanded considerably in India. In addition to the established tier-I offshoring destinations, India offers 20+ tier-II/III locations.
Cost savings and access to talent are the key drivers for adoption for tier II/III locations. In addition, there are multiple other opportunities (access to niche talent, first mover advantage in new locations, higher skill delivery) offered by tier-II/III locations. These advantages are likely to maintain the momentum for tier-II/III locations going forward. At the same time, there are challenges in service delivery (lower employability and scalability, lack of managerial talent, competition from peripheral locations in tier-I cities). As a result, companies need to evaluate trade-offs while considering tier-II/III locations.
